An isotonic drink is a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution intended for use before, during or after exercise to replenish muscle glycogen stores with additional carbohydrates, which are especially important during endurance sports. The presence of electrolytes also allows for better fluid retention and replacement of lost electrolytes.
